Bern's Steak House Wine Cellar Steward

Come work in the world’s largest private wine collection!  Bern’s Steak House has been a Tampa Bay icon since Bern and Gert Laxer opened the location in 1956.  We house over 6,500 different types of wine and more than half a million bottles.  The collection spans back to the eighteen hundreds with bottles valued at $30,000.  

Job Summary

Our wine cellar stewards are expected to give tours of our wine cellar, locate bottles with in our extensive collection, polish glasses and help keep our cellar and warehouse organized, clean and safe.  This is a back of the house job that still involves a fair amount of customer interaction due to the cellar tours we offer.  You would be working under a staff of four Sommeliers with a group of about a dozen other wine cellar stewards in a fast paced kitchen environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Shift start time 4:00PM  
  • Polish glassware and set the cellar for the day
  • Restock wines depleted from the previous day with inventory from a nearby warehouse location
    • Both the warehouse and the cellar require a fair amount of climbing ladders
  • When the restaurant opens, pour glasses of wine and retrieve bottles to fulfill server orders 
  • Tours start about an hour after opening, a good speaking voice is helpful
  • Minimal cleaning at the end of the night
  • Shift end time is midnight

Qualifications and Skills

  • The job doesn’t require any prior knowledge of wine, we will teach you as you go  
  • Must work well with others
  • Must work quickly and efficiently
  • Need to have consideration for guests and maintain a professional demeanor
